P3O® Foundation
3 day course
Suitable for
Any individual who wishes to perform as an informed member of a P3O®. This will include individuals newly-appointed to portfolio, programme or project office roles or those wishing to gain a formal qualification after some support office experience. Support offices may be known by a variety of titles such as; Portfolio Office, Centre of Excellence, Enterprise or Corporate Programme Office. This course will also benefit those aspiring to more senior roles.
Summary
P3O® provides a decision enabling and delivery support structure for an organisation. This highly interactive and participative course provides an understanding of the P3O® model based on OGC guidance, and prepares delegates for the Foundation qualification.
Content
- The context for a P3O® - definitions of portfolios, programmes and projects and how the elements of a P3O model align
- The purpose, elements and key benefits of the P3O® - factors to be considered to ensure and measure successful implementation and performance
- P3O® models and tailoring - different ways organisations may seek to implement portfolio, programme and project office concepts and support processe
- P3O® roles - identifies the management, generic and functional roles and responsibilities of the P3O® staff within the P3O® model
- P3O® implementation - the recommended lifecycle for implementing a new P3O® or re-energising an existing P3O®
- P3O® tools and techniques - multiple tools and techniques found in a best in class P3O® model.
Objectives
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
- Describe the high level P3O® model and know the differences between portfolio, programme and project Management
- Know the arguments for establishing a P3O® model and measuring its success
- Describe the purpose and major responsibilities of all roles
- State the key functions and services of a P3O®
- Describe the tools and techniques used by a P3O®
- Sit the Foundation exam
Exam Structure
The Foundation qualification focuses on the concepts, structures and duties of a P3O®.
The exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions to be answered in 40 minutes. It is a closed-book examination.

- Portfolio, Programme and Project Offices manual
- P30® Foundation exam fee
At least 10 hours should be set aside for essential pre-reading.
